One of the best season's Brunswick United have had for a number of years: all three teams's got promoted to a higher division, two teams in cup finals, and a great crop of youngsters coming through the ranks.
The youngsters, great signing's for next season and the future include, Jonathan Eames, Shaun Howells, Jamie Wheeler, Michael Davies, to name but a few. They have been outstanding this season, many in their baptism of Swansea Senior League Football (Their first season in a man's league).
Our First Team promoted to Division One after an absence of six years. They might have been champions, but lost 1 - 0 in the last league game to Gors, who took the title. Club coach Paul Wheeler kept his word saying when he took over he wanted division one football inside three years, which he has achieved. Our many thanks to Paul (Sticky) and Peter Harris (Smokey) who have worked hard. Paul retires from coaching the side now and wants to try a couple of years playing football himself on a regular basis. Anybody who fancy's giving a First Division Club a go at coaching, please contact our club secretary Mattehew Copp in writing or even just a phone call.
Onto Reserve Division Two, again our Second Team might have gone up as champions, missing out by 4 points having only lost 1 game all season. The very first game they lost to Winch Wen and a few silly draws (7), cost them the Championship position. Still it was a brilliant achievement and my thanks go to Wayne Griffiths, team captain Jason Paddison for all their hard work, and of course the players themselves.
Our Third Team took Reserve Division Five by storm. What a fantastic result, Division Champions and Cup Finalists. Loosing in the Final to Gors by 6 - 0, six lucky goals (ha ha). I guess they don't travel well, having come back from a Butlin's Boozy weekend that afternoon of the final. The beer took its toll; 3 wicked deflections and 3 jammy goals, what a way to go out on a glorious season. With so many youngsters all playing their first season in senior football, and so many oldies dictating how the game should be played (ha ha). Brilliant Lads. And of course thanks to Gary Griffiths running the side single handed.
My thanks also to Mattehew Copp our Club Secretary for all that he does, including washing the kit. And Elizabeth Wheeler who looked after and washed the first and third team kits.
A very big thank you to my wife Ann, who puts up with a lot to do with Brunswick, the phone calls, time when she misses me from the house as I watch the games every week, and writing the match reports on Saturday evenings (thats why we don't go out)
Finally a thank you to Stuart McDonald of Swansea Senior Football League.
And lets look forward to Season 2005/06.
